Carrie Barber, DNP, APRN, CNM, OB/GYN NP, C-EFM has over 26 years of experience in healthcare including a 19-year career in perinatal health as a certified nurse midwife with roles in academia, and hospital nursing administration.  As a former nursing professor, Dr. Barber was responsible for curriculum development and provided undergraduate and graduate course instruction.  As a former nursing director, she has served as a nurse leader, managed multidisciplinary care delivery and contributed to system wide quality and process improvement initiatives.  She is the founder of an independent national medical legal consulting practice, Barber Medical Legal Nurse Consulting, LLC.  As a nationally recognized continuing education provider and speaker, Dr. Barber integrates clinical, risk management and hospital leadership insight into all aspects of her work.  Her understanding of hospital operations, standards of care, as well as policy and procedure development informs her work as a perinatal medical legal consultant, educator and speaker.  

Dr. Barber has advanced certification in electronic fetal monitoring and serves as a certified AWHONN (Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses) fetal monitoring instructor while maintaining active clinical practice as a certified nurse midwife.  While demonstrating a commitment to maternal fetal safety, she empowers other clinicians through evidence-based education.  Dr. Barber serves on the Board of Directors for Community Maternity Services where she is involved in collaborating with the executive team to develop strategic plans, review metrics and annual budgets.  Dr. Barber integrates her unique expertise in perinatal healthcare to help guide specialized services such as pregnancy care and residential care for adolescent teen mothers and their babies.
